Breathe

"Breathe" was a intervention produced for the Zendai Museum of Modern Art, for Intrude:Art and Life, a curated program of public events in Shanghai, CN. A cargo tricycle with a tank of medical oxygen was wheeled into the busy Qipu Rd. marketplace where people were invited to sit down to inhale a rarefied version of air that is everywhere for the taking. The oxygen cart turns the automatic basal mechanism of breathing into a spectacle as people gather to watch. Meanwhile, air is becoming a commodity that is exchanged in the global market. As an urban intervention, the project reveals how our experience of air and its qualities are simultaneously public and extremely intimate and private; personal and political.
